Citrus Ice Cream
In partnership with Coney Island Creamery, this ice cream features produce handpicked by our dedicated staff from the UCR Citrus Variety Collection, one of the world’s most diverse collections of citrus species. We also use honey harvested from the Entomology’s Center for Integrative Bee Research (CIBER).
UC Riverside Dining Services utilizes a unique partnership with Givaudan Citrus Variety Collection to offer ice cream on campus freshly made from UCR citrus.
The ice cream is featured at the Scoops Ice Cream shop at the HUB, and are packaged and sold in four-ounce cups at Scotty’s Convenience Stores, The Stable, The Market at Glen Mor, The Market at North District, and The Den.
The ice cream is created in partnership with Coney Island Creamery, an artisanal ice cream manufacturer based in San Dimas that specializes in boutique flavors. Dining Services debuted the first UCR ice cream flavors in September 2024 with the opening of Scoops. The ice cream is the latest partnership between Dining Services and researchers to create unique products based on UCR’s agricultural research, including a gift line and citrus beer sold at the Barn.
Producing small batches allows UCR to experiment and refine. The first batch blended different citrus varieties together while sometimes they highlight each fruit. UCR has also produced other flavors including Yuzu matcha and honey rose pistachio.
